Cape May Court House – Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County will host an October Twilight Meeting for South Jersey farmers on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cape May Winery, 711 Townbank Road, Cape May, NJ 08204.
Rutgers University professors, researchers, and specialists provide educational support to farmers throughout New Jersey year-round. This fall, expert speakers from Rutgers University will come together in Cape May County to provide South Jersey farmers with important updates on specialty crops, soil health, and labor regulations.
This informative session will include the following presentations: Soil Health is Always a Good Investment presented by William Errickson, Monmouth County Agent III; Rutgers NJAES, IPM for specialty crops in New Jersey including tree fruit crops, small fruits, and vegetables with Janine Spies, Statewide Program Leader in Fruit IPM, County Agent III; Rutgers NJAES, Pesticide safety, non-hazardous pest control methods, label literacy and how to avoid the 3 most common violations with Spencer Kerkhof, Environmental Specialist I, Pesticide Compliance & Enforcement; NJDEP, and the Labor availability and Labor regulations that impact agriculture presented by Ben Casella, New Jersey Farm Bureau.
Claudia Gil Arroyo, Cape May County Agricultural Agent said, “We are excited to bring these expert speakers to Cape May County and we thank Cape May Winery for hosting this event that will provide local farmers from South Jersey with much needed information right here in our community.”
Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station faculty and staff assist commercial farms with information, field research and consultation on various issues related to agriculture, the environment, natural resources management, and integrated pest management.
Gil Arroyo added, “Rutgers has a wealth of valuable information available to farmers and the general public. This Twilight meeting is a great example of what the University has to offer to New Jersey farmers.”
