Cape May Court House – Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County’s (RCE) Advisory Council and the Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Advisory Board recognized Linda Spengler for 20 years of outstanding service to Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County. Spengler, a volunteer, retired from the RCE Advisory Board and the FCHS Advisory Board at the end of November 2019. Spengler served as Chair of both Boards.

Allen Carter, the new Chair of the Advisory Council said, “It is an honor to recognize Linda Spengler’s years of dedication to not only the Advisory Board, but also to the organizations of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County – FCHS, 4-H Youth Development and Agriculture and Natural Resources. Organizations such as the Advisory Board and its foundation organizations are only as good as the volunteers that step up to the plate.” Carter added, “Linda’s gift has been her valuable time volunteering for these organizations. We have all benefited from her dedication and support of the New Jersey Agriculture Experiment Station for 20 years.”

As a member of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension family since 2000, Spengler’s service began as a consultant for FCHS, a position she held for more than 16 years. She assisted in implementing the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program and the Junior Chefs Cooking Programs. Spengler also contributed countless hours of volunteer time helping with FCHS parenting and nutrition programs, Me and My Dad in the Kitchen programs, Power Up with Food, and a variety of nutrition education classes and demonstrations, as well as, Food Day and the 4-H Fair.

Spengler is a retired teacher who taught for nearly 40 years, with 30 of those years spent teaching Family and Consumer Sciences in the Ocean City School District. Spengler’s teaching skills, kind heart, and generosity were evident in her work at Rutgers Cooperative Extension – especially with the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program.

Spengler’s countless contributions were acknowledged when she was awarded the 2013 Extension Advisory Leadership Award. Her role at RCE continued to grow through the years. She was elected President of the Family and Community Health Sciences Advisory Board in 2013 and in 2014 Spengler was selected to be Chair of the Extension Advisory Council, both positions she held with honor and distinction until stepping down this year.

The Advisory Board is made up of members from the Cape May County 4-H Foundation, Cape May County Board of Agriculture and the Family and Community Health Sciences of Cape May County. These organizations are always looking for those who want to give back to their community. If you are interested in volunteering, please call Rutgers Cooperative Extension at 609-465-5115.
