Cape May Court House, NJ – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will hold their first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. The building is handicap accessible.
Guest Speaker Teri O’Connor, E-RYT 500, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, Reiki Master, will present the program, “Calm for the Caregiver.” Grandparents will learn simple techniques that bring the mind to the body. Chris Zellers, MMP, Family and Community Health Sciences Educator/Assistant Professor for Cape May County, said, “Stress is part of everyday life, but it is important to have coping skills to better manage stress. Teri will equip the grandparents with stress reduction tools to better manage everyday stress.”
Zellers oversees the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program that meets 10 months each year providing information and support to Cape May County grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
New families are always welcome at the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group. Upcoming meetings in 2023 will include programs on navigating the legal system, wellness, and keeping safe on social media.
Childcare will be provided for the grandchildren and a light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the program following at 6 p.m. There is no charge for this program, however, advanced registration is required by January 13, 2023.
