Cape May Court House – The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County will host a free, virtual presentation for farmers, “Getting a Head Start and Keeping the Season Going,” from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
The presenter will be Richard VanVranken, Agriculture & Natural Resources County Agent 1, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County.
The informational talk, geared to local farmers, will cover the techniques for extending the production and marketing season. Topics will include season extension is not a new concept, but we have many more tools and techniques to use, production practices go beyond hot caps and row covers, and the marketing season doesn’t end with the last harvest.
Jen Sawyer Caraballo, ANR County Program Associate for Commercial Agriculture, Cooperative Extension of Cape May County said, “Season extension enables farmers to get a jump start in the spring and extend their harvests into the cooler autumn months, enabling them to keep their markets open longer. As extension staff, it is important we make sure the information on new technologies and tools gets directly to our growers. We’re excited to have Vegetable Specialist, Rick VanVranken presenting on some new production practices.”
