Cape May Court House – Each year in April, Cape May County 4-H holds a Community Service Day in celebration of National Volunteer Month. This year, on April 13, 2024, Cape May County 4-H members, their families, and friends volunteered to clean out and clean up the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center as their community service project.
“It was an epic day for Cape May County 4-H! An army of 4-H members and volunteers accomplished a major cleaning out of the attic and storage room at the Lockwood Center. From tiny kindergarteners up, the mighty crew sorted, tidied, dragged, hauled, and carried 50 years’ worth of old 4-H stuff – filling two huge dumpsters,” said Linda Horner, Cape May County 4-H Program Coordinator.
Part of being a 4-H member is doing community service every year. The 4-H motto is I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world. Volunteering is one way for members to give back to the community and this year that community was our own 4-H building.
