Cape May Court House – Do you have chickens or ducks? Are you giving your child a hamster or rabbit during the holiday season? Or maybe you just want to learn more about raising small animals, then we have a 4-H Club just for you. The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is excited to announce the formation of the Little Critters 4-H Club…new for 2025!
This 4-H Club, open to youth in kindergarten through 8th grade, will explore the world of small animals including guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, chinchillas, ferrets, chickens and ducks.
The Little Critters 4-H Club will be led by Donna Griebau, Cape May County 4-H Program Associate II, and is open to the public – you don’t have to be a current 4-H member to participate. The seven-session club will meet from 12pm to 1:30pm starting Sunday, January 26, 2025, in the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, on the 4-H Fairgrounds, 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, CMCH, NJ 08210. Additional classes will take place on February 2 and 23, March 9 and 23, and April 6 and 27.
The 4-H Club will teach participants about small animals, help families select the right pet for their family, and show them how to properly care for their pet. Topics will include selecting the right animal based on the age of the child, providing proper housing, daily care, grooming and food. Plus, recognizing if your animal is sick and demonstrate basic small pet first aid.
“This is the time of year that many families decide to get a pet. This 4-H club will help them learn about the daily care and responsibilities that come with raising a small animal,” said Griebau. “Lessons will be presented as hands-on activities, games and crafts,” added Griebau.
