4-H Public Presentations are March 16 through March 20
Cape May Court House – Another successful 4-H Public Presentations Workshop is in the books! Cape May County 4-H members attended a 4-H Public Presentations, Superheroes in Training, Workshop on February 26th at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center. The program, hosted by the Teen Ambassadors 4-H Club, provided attendees with information and tips on how to prepare a successful public presentation. The workshop included all new fun challenges that made learning easier – especially for new members who will be presenting for the first time this year. Attendees received one extra credit point that will be added to their presentation score.
Cape May County 4-H Program Coordinator Linda Horner said, “Hats off to the Teen Ambassadors 4-H Club who put on an awesome public presentations workshop for younger 4-H members! Young 4-H members learned so much from the teens about how to do a good presentation and had fun while learning. Participants also received good luck pickle pins to wear the night of their presentations.”
The 2026 Cape May County 4-H Public Presentations will take place from March 16 through March 20 at Atlantic Cape Community College. 4-H Public Presentations have long been an integral part of the 4-H “Learning by Doing” approach to youth development. More than 100 members of the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program are expected to present before volunteer judges from the community, their fellow club members, and adult leaders during the event that 4-H members are required to do each year.
4-H members may choose from four types of presentations: demonstration, illustrated talk, formal speech and performing arts. Even the youngest members of the 4-H family, kindergarten through third grade “Cloverbuds,” are given the opportunity to try their hands at speaking in front of a group.
4-H Public Presentations are judged using the Danish System, which rates the performance of competitors compared to a standard of achievement, not to one another. Grades are excellent, very good, good, and fair. 4-H members in the 8th – 13th grade who achieve a score of excellent from the judges will be eligible to compete at the NJ 4-H State Public Presentations Contest in June.
