Cape May Court House – Five Cape May County 4-Hers joined the more than 100 4-H members from throughout the state to participate in the 4-H State Public Presentations Program on June 6 at the City Campus of Rutgers University.
Cape May County 4-H members Danika Couse, Emma Gotwols, Kayla McDermott, Juliana Romano and Nathan Shulde gave their presentations in-person while 4-Her Ryley Yates submitted her presentation as a video entry.
Teen 4-H members, in grades 8 through 13, who achieved a score of excellent at their County Public Presentation Contests were eligible to compete in the 4-H State Public Presentations Program. Everyone received a certificate, Danish ribbon, and a Best in Room Award was presented to the winners in each room. Cape May County 4-Her Emma Gotwols won her competition room with her presentation, “My ACL Journey!” Other topics covered by the Cape May County group included Red Knots, pre-historic Birds, Constantinople, Bottle Babies, and Space.
4-H members are required to do a presentation each year. They may choose from four types of presentations: demonstration, illustrated talk, formal speech and performing arts. This state event offers qualified 4-H members an advanced public speaking experience. “We are so proud of our 4-Hers who competed on the state level. The public speaking experience 4-H youth build throughout their 4-H careers is one good example of the life skills that 4-H provides,” said Linda Horner, Cape May County 4-H Program Coordinator.
