Cape May Court House – The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is proud to announce the Outstanding Senior and Junior 4-H Members for 2026. Julianna Romano and Danika Couse were named Outstanding Seniors and James Gill Carr, Jr. was named Outstanding Junior in recognition of their accomplishments in 4-H project work, citizenship, leadership, community service, and personal development.
2026 Outstanding Senior 4-H Member Julianna Romano is a member of Star Hollow Riders and Teen Ambassadors 4-H clubs. Julianna, a senior at Cape May County Technical High School, was one of fifteen individuals selected Nationwide to attend the Alaskan Naukati Bay, Sea Otter Sound Coastal Academy August 27 through November 9, 2026. Julianna has been an active member of the 4-H Youth Development Program for four years. She has competed at the NJ 4-H State Public Presentations earning an Excellent Ribbon, serves as Vice President of Teen Ambassadors and Treasurer of Star Hollow 4-H clubs. In 2025, Julianna was named Senior Equestrian of the Year and received the Kyle P. Riggins Memorial Community Service Award. Julianna said, “4-H has helped me gain confidence and the courage to strive for more.” Julianna plans to start a Cape May County 4-H club for birdwatching in the future.
2026 Outstanding Senior 4-H Member Danika Couse is a member of the Teen Ambassadors and Milky Ways 4-H clubs. She will be in 10th grade at Cape May County Technical High School in September and has been a member of the 4-H Youth Development Program for nine years. Danika is president of the Milky Ways 4-H club and serves as Parliamentarian for the Teen Ambassadors 4-H Club. Danika has participated in many programs including State Public Presentations where she received State Room Winner, the Future Farmers of America State Convention, and the Peer Leadership Conference. Danika says, “When I think of 4-H, I think of the connections I’ve made, the skills I’ve learned, and lessons that I will carry my entire life.”
Outstanding Junior 4-H Member James Gill Carr, Jr. is a member of Archers of America, Get Your Brick On, Science Rocks, and Tightlines 4-H Clubs. JJ has been involved in 4-H for eight years and will be in 8th grade at Middle Township Middle School in the Fall. He has grown his leadership skills by serving in an officer role in many clubs through the years and is currently President of Science Rocks 4-H club. In 2026 JJ was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in his school. JJ says 4-H has taught him many things, “4-H has helped me grow as a person and express myself better. Because of 4-H, I am participating in many activities including as an aide in summer camp helping younger 4-Hers.”
Linda Horner, 4-H Program Coordinator said, “Our objectives for this award program are to provide an opportunity for these 4-Hers to enhance their personal and leadership development, to represent 4-H in the community and to receive recognition for all that they have already accomplished.” The 2026 Outstanding 4-H Members will represent the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program in a variety of ways including participating at this year’s 4-H Fair on July 16, 17, and 18.
